United Methodist Women

The purpose of the United Methodist Women is to know God, to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in theglobal ministries of the church.

Our Haddonfield United Methodist Church unit belongs to the Central District of the Southern New Jersey Conference. This past year we sent more than $5,000 to our district for local, national and global mission outreach. We also gave financial support to a number of groups locally and afar, such as:

  1. Youth of HUMC - Dominican Republic Trip
  2. Daniel Hulitt Scholarship Fund - sends underprivileged youth to summer camp.
  3. Neighborhood Center Summer Enrichment program for children
  4. "Wings of Caring" - The Quiggs - our missionaries in Zaire.
  5. Frances Nelson Scholarship Calendar Fund - supports education for women in Christian Service.

Within our Haddonfield unit we are organized into smaller groups called circles. The circles work on mission projects of their own choosing. Some examples of these projects are:

  1. Giving Christmas gifts to needy families.
  2. Knitting baby caps and making tray favors for Methodist Hospital.
  3. Visiting and taking supplies to a home for unwed mothers and their babies.
  4. Giving Christmas gifts to girls at Robin's Nest and having craft-pizza parties with them.
  5. Making lap robes for residents of Collingswood Manor.

The total program of the UMW is mission. The mission program includes spiritual growth, mission education, and social involvement. These three areas are brought out in the studies that the UMW chooses for the year. Through reading, sharing and praying at circle meetings, we are able to grow and be better informed so that we can act and be involved in God's plan.
