Habitat
For Humanity

A Partner Ministry of
Haddonfield United Methodist Church

HUMC is in partnership with the Metropolitan Camden Habitat for Humanity (MCHH).

We assemble a work crew of volunteers, every third Saturday of the month in the Church parking lot. We meet at 8:00 AM and carpool to the work site, at 7th and Clinton Sts., in Camden. We pick up assignments and work until noon. You may be working in any of the Building Trades, under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson. The work is interesting, but hardly ever clean. You will always learn something new.

MCCH is now in progress of restoring brick row homes on Clinton St. and other locations. The homes are very old and in extremely poor condition. Most are “gutted” and re-constructed. The finished product is a sturdy, warm and livable home adhering to all building codes.

If you feel your skills don’t include swinging a hammer and are more administrative in nature, you may consider volunteering some time along those lines, Look into the MCHH web site, or call (856) 486 9177 for opportunities that may match your skills. Don’t discount the building trade, however. We have some very unskilled people that contribute greatly.

The homes are not given away. The recipients are screened very carefully and they have a mortgage. The mortgage is provided by Habitat for Humanity International, without interest and based on the ability to pay. They can lose their homes for reasons that are within their control. The homeowner is also required to participate in what is called “sweat equity”. This requires them to do work on their property and others for up to 500 hours, depending on the situation. More information on this and other subjects, can be found by visiting the MCHH web site at:
