Haddonfield United Methodist Church Nursery School

H.U.M.N.S. was founded in 1957 as a ministry of the church. Today the Nursery School is a State licensed school with a staff of nine teachers and one director, all college educated and certified in Early Childhood Education, First Aid and C.P.R. Barbara R. Thomas is the director. Enrollment is approximately 90 children, ages 3 and 4 of all religious denominations, residing in Haddonfield and area communities as far away as Mt. Laurel and Medford.

The purpose of the H.U.M.N.S. is to help each child develop to the fullest his own potential. We believe the child does this best in an atmosphere of love and trust, of acceptance and understanding. As a church-sponsored school, we attempt to provide this nurturing atmosphere, to follow Christian principles, and to encourage Christian attitudes, but make no effort to teach sectarian doctrine.

The program includes language arts, science, music, dramatic play, cooking, and creative arts. Computer exposure in all 4 year old classes.

To help the child accomplish this, the school provides: large, sunny, well equipped and attractive rooms, and three outdoor play areas.

Applications are accepted for the full year. Children, who are 3 or 4 years old on or before October 1 of the year they are enrolled, are eligible if their mental age, physical health, and social maturity is such that they will benefit from a group experience. The school year is similar to the Haddonfield public schools. Classes are in session 9:00 to 11:30a.m. Monday through Friday and 12:20 to 2:50 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The Church Education Committee appoints the Nursery School Committee. It meets bimonthly and is responsible for the overall program of the school. Each year six parents of children, currently enrolled, serve on the committee.

Inquiries are welcome and inspection of the school facilities is invited. Telephone 856/428-2155 if you wish a brochure, or an application form and tuition plan.
