A letter of thanks came from the
Conference thanking our UMW for hosting the spring event in April. They thanked
us for the breakfast, lunch, flowers and fine accommodations. All our
efforts were appreciated.
For your summer reading there are many current issues from Response and
World Outlook. They will be in the library and available for as long as you
need them. It is a great idea to keep up on all the activities of other UMW
units. The last issue of New World Outlook is full of ideas about how to raise
money for mission projects. One is about the UMCOR Coffee Program. How about
this.........buy a case of organic unsweetened or very dark chocolate bars and
host a chocolate bake sale. A "best chocolate recipe" contest can be
held as part of the bake sale and all the entries can be sampled or sold.
Another idea is Fair Trade G'ift Baskets. In addition to chocolate,
coffee and tea, the UMCOR Program offers snack foods such as pecans, almonds
and dried cranberries. Buy cases of
the various products whole sale through the UMCOR Coffee Program and create
gift baskets for sale or auction. Baskets can be created on holiday themes such
as Valentine's Day, Christmas, or birthday. Choose all organic products and put
together a "green" basket.
So you see there are lots of ways to expand our Mission
giving. The issue also tells about the success UMCOR has had in the Sudan
Project. And what's happening in Haiti since the earthquake.
There is still time to sign up
for the School of
Christian Mission on
July. So far, four of our members are going. It’s a great place to have a short
"retreat" and worship and learn with about 150 UMW from about our
area. See Ruth for a signup sheet
This is the last issue of the Messenger until October when we will be starting
up our meetings again. Thanks to Frank Cahill
for his diligence in getting the information and adding his personal touches to
make it a "good" read.
