The Floral Arts Guild's mission is to glorify God and delight the congregation through artistic floral arrangements and the decorative arts. In addition to arranging flowers for worship, weddings, funerals and special occasions at HUMC, we care for and change Paraments, Banners and Seasonal Decorations. Most work is done at HUMC in the Floral Arts Center where we have a small gift shop that helps to support our ministries. The Floral Arts Center is located under the Welcome Center, at the bottom of the stairway. Stephen Ministry

Christ caring for people through people at
Haddonfield United Methodist Church

What is Stephen Ministry?
When a crisis come into our lives, it is helpful to have friends who care. Sometimes a person from within our faith community can help in ways that truly make a difference.

Stephen Ministers at HUMC are lay persons who have completed a formal 50 hour training program that, coupled with their experience and their own spiritual gifts, prepares them to listen and comfort fellow Christians in times of need. They will do this in a sensitive, non-judgmental way that is loving, supportive, and completely confidential.

Stephen Ministers complement the primary role of the Clergy.  They are available as a helper (not a rescuer), a listener (not an advisor), and a friend (not a counselor).  A Stephen Minister will walk beside you during the difficult times in life.  While they serve as your caregivers, God is always the curegiver!

“Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn.”  Romans 12:15

Stephen Ministers Care…
Our Stephen Ministers provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to people who are:

·         Grieving the death of a loved one

·         Hospitalized or recovering from hospitalization

·         Lonely or discouraged

·         Coping with a terminal illness or caring for a family member with a terminal illness

·         Unemployed or in a job crisis

·         Disabled or caring for an ill or disabled family member

·         Moving or relocating

·         New to the congregation or the community

·         Anticipating the birth or adoption of a child

·         Homebound or institutionalized

·         Transitioning into retirement

·         Dealing with the crisis of aging

·         Facing a life transition

·         Experiencing a spiritual crisis

·         Victims of a disaster or accident

And for people facing countless other crises or life challenges or who are going through a difficult time and could benefit from the care of a supportive Christian friend.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”  Galatians 6:2

A Stephen Minister is ...

·         A child of God who walks beside a hurting person;

·         A caring Christian who really listens;

·         A member of our congregation who has received 50 hours of training in how to provide distinctively Christian care;

·         A person who is ready to focus on your needs;

·         A trustworthy confidant who will keep everything you say—and even your identity—confidential; and

·         Someone who will faithfully meet with you on a weekly basis for as long as your need persists.

“Live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers and sisters, be compassionate and humble.”  1 Peter 3:8

Why Stephen Ministry?
Inspiration and guidance for Stephen Ministry comes from Christ’s desire for us to minister to the needs of those inside and outside our congregation.  There are many scriptural passages that charge us today with this duty.

 “Encourage one another and build up each other.”  1 Thessalonians 5:11a

 “Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.”  John 13-34

How can I request a Stephen Minister?
Are you, or is someone you know, in need of a caring, Christian who will listen, empathize, encourage, pray, provide confidential care, and patiently support you as you work through a crisis or difficult time?

Wednesday Night Dinners

Sanctuary Services

You can participate in many ways to help make the Sunday worship services the best they can be. Some ways to help are:

  • Ushers: Ushers welcome and assist worshipers by passing out bulletins, guiding the congregation during the celebration of Holy Communion, and being available to answer questions and give directions to locations around the church. Ushers sign up for one Sunday per month.
  • Acolytes: Young people grades 5 through 12 have the opportunity to serve the church as an acolyte. They assist in the worship service by lighting altar candles, carrying the cross, assisting in service of baptism, and gather prayer requests, as well as assist in other ways. This is an important ministry of the church. Training is provided and acolytes sign up for one Sunday per month, on average.
  • Altar Guild: Members of this committee care for and prepare the altar for worship and for Holy Communion.

Linda Ingram, Bus Usage Listings: Church Office 856-429-0403

The Bus Ministry is a vital part of the church providing transportation for seniors to be able to attend the 11 am Sunday Services. Sunday drivers are volunteers who have received instructions on bus usage and etiquette by the chairman. Additional drivers are also trained from various groups for each Sunday.  Linda Ingram in the office keeps the listing of bus usage for various Church events to avoid conflict.  Additional drivers are always welcome to volunteer for this service to the congregation. The list of assigned Sunday drivers are found in the bulletin for senior citizens to contact no later than each Saturday to arrange a ride.

People of the church take great pride in knowing this bus is available for the many trips and events of the congregation.  Since 2002, our HUMC Bus Ministry has traveled throughout the community displaying our logo. Our bus remains in the best condition possible because of preventive maintenance and responsible members.
