The Floral Arts Guild's mission is to glorify God and delight the congregation through artistic floral arrangements and the decorative arts. In addition to arranging flowers for worship, weddings, funerals and special occasions at HUMC, we care for and change Paraments, Banners and Seasonal Decorations. Most work is done at HUMC in the Floral Arts/Craft Room 003 where we also have a small gift shop that helps to support our ministries. For further information, contact David VanSciver at TwinOaks206@msn.com or call him at home: (609)859-1928.

What is Stephen Ministry?

  • Stephen Ministry equips lay people to provide confidential one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.

Stephen Ministry Multiplies Ministry

  • Pastors will always be on the front line of care, especially during times of crisis. But there are always many more needs for ongoing, one-to-one care than pastors can effectively meet by themselves.
  • Stephen Ministry provides a biblical solution-equipping God's people for ministry. Gifted lay people are trained to support and extend the care that pastors continue to provide
  • Stephen Ministers reach out with God's love to people who are hurting-both congregation members and nonmembers alike.

Classes are being formed to train people to be Stephen Ministers. Thursday, September 24, will be the start of a new one and we encourage you to become a part of this vital ministry at HUMC. Call Barbara Smyth for further information and to be a part of this new class. 429-0403

Sanctuary Services

You can participate in many ways to help make the Sunday worship services the best they can be. Some ways to help are:

  • Ushers: Ushers welcome and assist worshipers by passing out bulletins, guiding the congregation during the celebration of Holy Communion, and being available to answer questions and give directions to locations around the church. Ushers sign up for one Sunday per month.
  • Acolytes: Young people grades 5 through 12 have the opportunity to serve the church as an acolyte. They assist in the worship service by lighting altar candles, carrying the cross, assisting in service of baptism, and gather prayer requests, as well as assist in other ways. This is an important ministry of the church. Training is provided and acolytes sign up for one Sunday per month, on average.
  • Altar Guild: Members of this committee care for and prepare the altar for worship and for Holy Communion.

Children Impacted by AIDS Ministry

Our Committee members work with children who are either infected with the HIV virus or who are impacted by HIV/AIDS because they live in a family where someone has this virus. Between the symptoms of the disease and the side effects of the medications, the person with the virus is unpredictably ill, on top of other problems associated with socio-economic instability.

We provide calls, visits, modest holiday and birthday gifts for the children, emergency food gift certificates for the families, school clothes and other items needed on an emergency basis. We also provide sunscreen/insect repellant for Camp Bright Feathers that is run for children impacted by HIV/AIDS.One of our members held a birthday party for the child she visits, including this child’s friends. This volunteer also took seven children out trick or treating on Halloween.

We have supplied underwear for children through adults through the Spring and Fall Giveaways as well as cranberry sauce and roasting pans for Thanksgiving dinners sponsored by Caring Hearts for the larger community of children impacted by AIDS in our area.

Our committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM, after the Wed. Night Dinner. We need new members and we would warmly welcome your participation. Contact Norma Whitcraft or the Church Office if you are interested in this opportunity for ministry.

Church Bus Ministry

Dorothy Bartie, Scheduler for Sunday Drivers: 856-428-8642
Linda Ingram, Bus Usage Listings: Church Office 856-429-0403

The Bus Ministry is a vital part of the church providing transportation for seniors to be able to attend the 11 am Sunday Services. Sunday drivers are volunteers who have received instructions on bus usage and etiquette by the chairman. Additional drivers are also trained from various groups for each Sunday.  Linda Ingram in the office keeps the listing of bus usage for various Church events to avoid conflict.  Additional drivers are always welcome to volunteer for this service to the congregation. The list of assigned Sunday drivers are found in the bulletin for senior citizens to contact no later than each Saturday to arrange a ride.

People of the church take great pride in knowing this bus is available for the many trips and events of the congregation.  Since 2002, our HUMC Bus Ministry has traveled throughout the community displaying our logo. Our bus remains in the best condition possible because of preventive maintenance and responsible members.
